Unexplained Questions

by brandt

This past weekend brought a lot of great opportunities to get some good solid work done on the house.  However, now that we finally reached decent weather, most of those opportunities were subsituted spending our time outside trying to get some color on our pasty-white legs and enjoying driving with the windows down.  Yet I developed an inner dialogue of many unanswered questions.  Here are just a few of them.

Spring Cleaning, Part One

by brandt

Spring is a time of renewing.  Of refreshing.  Of rebirth.

It’s also a time when you get to see what havoc Mother Nature wreaked on your lawn during the cold dead of winter.  And when you purchase a house that has been unoccupied for about a year previous to when you inhabit it, you get to see Mother Nature in her full, unadulterated glory.

So You Want a Tour, Eh?

by brandt

This week has been one exhausting week.  I mentioned previously how I made a huge mistake by going cheap and NOT renting a U-Haul.  I also made the mistake of not being on my “A” game and getting the power turned on, which put us way behind the 8-ball as far as moving into our house was concerned.  Well, we’ve been living in 2 worlds this past week.  Like a super-spy, a la Arnold Schwarzenegger in “True Lies.”  Or Hannah Montana.  Anyways, we’ve had half of our stuff in our house, half in our apartment, and this past week literally every single night we’ve been moving stuff.  We usually get home from work between 5:00 and 5:30, and haven’t collapsed into bed exhausted until 11:30-12:00 at night.  We both work, so we’re up at about 6:00 AM, so it’s been a long week.

The Moment You’ve All Been Waiting For…sort of

by Ashley

Warning: This blog post contains melodramatic statements and excessive, yet inadvertent amounts of  slashy/type/thingies//////////////////////////////////

After long, extensive months waiting, and Brandt blabbing about our tedious experience of buying a house, we finally got it. As part of the deal, I said that I would write as soon as we had the keys in hand. So now the moment has finally arrived. The post you have all been dying to read, wanting to know the answer to one of many important questions.

What colors will Ashley paint her house?

Random Friday Five “Are We Done Yet” Edition – 01/14/2011

by brandt

The purchase agreement is in, the EMD check has been deposited, and now we’re officially on the clock with the waiting game.  Thank you very much to all you kind people sending your positive karmic wishes over to us!  We could really use the good vibes as we begin the wonderful task of waiting on the bank.  It’s like “Waiting on the World to Change,” but instead of hope and optimism for humankind, we’re hoping and optimistic that a number cruncher spits out the numbers we want.  Our agent thinks that we’re in good shape, based on length of time on the market, the current time of year (sales are slow during the winter), and especially the comps in the area.  However, she’s warned us that the bank (GMAC) is going to do what the bank is going to do.  Obviously, updates will come almost as soon as we hear something (after Ashley and I both do our “happy dance,” make the appropriate phone calls, and come back down to Planet Earth).

Anyways, on with the countdown!

wait…aren’t I missing something?

Oh yeah….can’t believe I almost forgot.

House #10 – Lake Orion

by brandt

We viewed this house last year.  Yes, I know “last year” is only 6 days old, and it’s weird to say that about something that happened a week ago, but it’s true.  I was working from home during the break, and after juggling schedules with the owners of the house, my agent, and our schedule, we finally got a chance to tour the house.

This one was a long shot.  I was scouring through the listings (after getting an updated pre-approval for a much higher amount), and this one was on my radar.  I knew the subdivision, had friends in high school who lived there, it met our location requirements, but it was priced high.  I got in touch with my agent, and figured it couldn’t hurt to take a look.

Malone 2010 Year-In-Review

by brandt

I’m not much into resolutions. The New Year is going to bring what it brings.  I’m into priority lists and to-do lists.  So while Ashley might put together her own New Years Resolution list, I like to reflect on what happened this past year.

House #8 – Lake Orion

by brandt

So much for resting during the holidays, eh?  Ashley and I both thought that the availability of houses was going to really hit a low point because of both the winter months and the holiday.  That was, until we found out that we were pre-approved for a much higher amount under a Homepath Renovation mortgage.  Right now, I’m in the process of getting an updated FHA pre-approval since ours expired on the 22nd.  After we informed our agent of the increase, we asked for the MLS listings to reflect a higher price.  Wow.  All I know is that there were a lot more houses that were really interesting as soon as we made that jump.  Which gets us to House #8.

The Christmas Eve Random Friday Five!

by brandt

It’s Christmas time again!  As Ron Weasley said to Harry Potter in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Happy Christmas, Harry!”  The Malone Compound inhabitants has been hard at work slaving over hot stoves getting cookies, cakes, and all sorts of sundry sugary items ready for mass consumption, as well as rocking out to some awesome Christmas songs (Um, Twisted Sister singing O Come All Ye Faithful, anyone?).  Anyways, enough with the holiday accolades, let’s get to the part everyone has been waiting for…

KITTEH FOR SANTA!
