So You Want a Tour, Eh?

by brandt

This week has been one exhausting week.  I mentioned previously how I made a huge mistake by going cheap and NOT renting a U-Haul.  I also made the mistake of not being on my “A” game and getting the power turned on, which put us way behind the 8-ball as far as moving into our house was concerned.  Well, we’ve been living in 2 worlds this past week.  Like a super-spy, a la Arnold Schwarzenegger in “True Lies.”  Or Hannah Montana.  Anyways, we’ve had half of our stuff in our house, half in our apartment, and this past week literally every single night we’ve been moving stuff.  We usually get home from work between 5:00 and 5:30, and haven’t collapsed into bed exhausted until 11:30-12:00 at night.  We both work, so we’re up at about 6:00 AM, so it’s been a long week.

The Manny Chronicles

by brandt

Sometimes, having young animals can be extremely frustrating.  For our 2 kittens, we had some health issues to work through, then some behavior issues to work through, and I think we’re now at a point where both Ashley and I and the cats have a mutual understanding about what is acceptable behavior and what isn’t.  For example, chasing each other around and playing, even in the middle of the night while we’re trying to sleep is something we’ve conceded.  Chewing on electronics cords (like for our entertainment center, surround sound, or computers) isn’t acceptable.  Shedding all over our clothes is another compromise we made.  Fine, go ahead and shed.  But when I catch a kitty paws deep in our sink eating our leftover food, I’m not happy, and that’s not acceptable behavior.

The Christmas Eve Random Friday Five!

by brandt

It’s Christmas time again!  As Ron Weasley said to Harry Potter in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “Happy Christmas, Harry!”  The Malone Compound inhabitants has been hard at work slaving over hot stoves getting cookies, cakes, and all sorts of sundry sugary items ready for mass consumption, as well as rocking out to some awesome Christmas songs (Um, Twisted Sister singing O Come All Ye Faithful, anyone?).  Anyways, enough with the holiday accolades, let’s get to the part everyone has been waiting for…

KITTEH FOR SANTA!

I have lots of random thoughts.  I’ve narrowed them down to five.  It’s Friday.  Let us begin.

There’s Someplace Like Home For the Holidays

by brandt

I don’t think I”ll ever understand when the “newlywed” phase wears out.  I’ve heard lots of different timeframes: After you’ve been married 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 5 years, after you’ve had a child, after you’ve had your first major fight, after bodily functions are normal and encouraged, after weight becomes a non-issue (that one made me laugh), never (gag me).

I say that because now that Ashley and I have been married for 3.5 years, it feels like I’m learning things every day and there are days where I still feel like a newlywed, and days where it feels like we’re old folk married for a lifetime.  And then there are days when I wish future-Brandt would have left me a list of little things to remember, so that I could learn life’s little lessons a bit sooner.

Thanksgiving Thankfulness #3 – Metaphors

by Ashley

For weeks Brandt has been pestering me to write on our blog. I had originally agreed to write posts once we got a house then I could write to my heart’s desire about painting cabinets and revamping a bathroom. Well the house thing currently doesn’t have much movement, and I think Brandt wants to prove to the World Wide Web that he does have a wife, not just some imaginary figure he daydreams about…or does he? Just kidding Brandt, you know I love you.

Brandt told me to write something that I’m thankful for, which is like telling me to look at my shoe closet and pick one pair to wear for the rest of my life. Ah the horror! While I don’t have a shoe collection like Stacey London, who has rumored to have more than 300 pairs of stilettos alone, I love my shoes. All kinds of shoes. From my designer stilettos to my discount-store ballet flats, to my Nike cross-trainers to my Dr. Martin boots, I’m an equal opportunity employer when it comes to footwear.
